Christie & Co markets unique Hotel Project Nordport Plaza at Hamburg Airport
The Nordport Plaza, a spectacular hotel project, is currently being developed, close to Hamburg Airport at the foot of the Nordport Towers. The architecturally outstanding 4-star hotel is due to open in 2017 as Germany’s first establishment in Starwood’s Tribute Portfolio. It will be operated by RIMC. Hotel broker Christie & Co is implementing the sales process on behalf of project developer Premero Immobilien.
The ten-storey, elliptical, main building with its continuous glass façade is designed as an “eye” and will contain 188 modern, exclusively furnished rooms and suites. The highlight will be the Skybar on the ninth floor of the building with views of Hamburg, the airport and Norderstedt. The four-storey adjoining building, the “eyebrow”, will site an exquisite restaurant seating 200, along with its own conference centre, which, with five flexible spaces and three boardrooms, will allow the hotel to host events for up to 500 people. Premero describes the design as “classy, timeless and elegant”, and the theme of the Lockheed Super Constellation and of aircraft in general flows through every area of the hotel. In terms of concept, this is realised in features, such as the self check-in or business lunch trays, and furniture classics from the Sixties are also intended to embody the theme. Particular attention is being paid to sustainability – including the hotel’s own cogeneration unit and geothermal probes – which will be evident in above-average energy efficiency. The hotel is primarily geared to hotel guests, but the restaurant, in particular, and the Skybar will also attract external guests from the area.
Melanie Morgenthaler, CEO at Premero Immobilien, says: “We are convinced that the location is crying out for a hotel like this. Business people arriving at the airport will find the comfort they require in the hotel, companies from the surrounding area will have the opportunity of accommodating staff even for longer periods – in the context of projects for example – in our long-stay apartments, and to organise conferences and business lunches.
“But the Nordport Plaza, as a new landmark of the town, is also intended to become a meeting place for all the people of Norderstedt. We can envisage all sorts of events taking place in the Skybar, in particular.”
Norderstedt alone has eight business parks, home to a total of 4,300 companies from an extremely wide range of industries – including international businesses like Casio, Lufthansa, Johnson&Johnson or Tesa. The airport already recorded 15.6 million passengers in 2015 and has achieved average growth in passenger numbers of three per cent per annum over the past ten years. In the same period, the accommodation market in Norderstedt saw growth of 20 per cent in arrivals and 18 per cent in overnight stays.

The Hamburg hotel market, which can post the highest occupancy rates in Germany, has been seeing highly dynamic development since 2009. With 6.3 million arrivals and 12.6 million overnight stays, 2015 was another record year in all operations – and prospects for the future are also positive.
