Christie & Co sold hotel Pichlarn castle to Salzburg hotelier Georg Imlauer

Aigen im Ennstal. Thanks to Christie & Co the renowned 5-star hotel Pichlarn castle in the Austrian Alps has a new owner. The well-known hotelier Georg Imlauer took over the hotel with his hotel group IMLAUER Hotel & Restaurant GmbH on the 1st of January 2021.

After about 13 years of ownership, the German Schörghuber Group sold the castle hotel in Styria to the experienced Austrian hotelier Georg Imlauer. With this purchase, Imlauer is adding the first typical leisure hotel to his existing portfolio of city hotels and restaurants in Salzburg and Vienna. He is taking over the hotel with the existing operating company and around 100 employees.

Located in the coveted holiday region Ennstal and surrounded by around 680,000sqm of ground, the property is a leading establishment for the entire region. It inspires with historical charm and contemporary exclusivity and has established itself as one of Austria's leading hotels. The hotel offers a total of 96 high-quality furnished bedrooms and suites. A spacious wellness & spa area featuring 4,500sqm, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, as well as an underground car park, a helicopter landing pad, and the hotel's own 18-hole golf course surrounding the property give Pichlarn castle a unique position in the upscale hotel market.

“We are very pleased to have found an experienced hotelier in Mr. Imlauer, who knows the Austrian hotel market and appreciates the 1000-years history of the castle as well as its unique location,” Lukas Hochedlinger, Managing Director at Christie & Co, who accompanied the sales process with his team sums up. “The leisure segment has been hit less hard by the coronavirus pandemic than city hotels, making this a logical step for Mr. Imlauer. He’s is expanding his hotel portfolio and thus showing diversity in the crisis,” Hochedlinger is convinced.
